Criss Cross Card tutorial

Hello Friends,
Today we are going to making this criss cross card.
Isn't is adorable? You can pull the tab and out comes a little note card to write down a sweet message to one of your loved ones or friends. The card size is 3" X 4 1/4".

Okay lets get our materials together and get started....

Materials Needed:
2 pieces of Card Stock cut at 3" X 8 1/2"

2 pieces of Designer Series Paper cut at 4" X 2 3/4"

1 piece of card stock (for notecard) cut at 4" X 2 3/4"

1 piece of card stock (for notecard) cut at 3 3/4" X 2 1/2"

Stamp Set(s), bone folder, Dimensionals, Stamp-a-ma-jig, bitty buttons, rhinestones, ink pads, ribbon, markers, double-sided tape, scissors, glue dots, ruler, heart punch, itty bitty punch pack, modern label punch, corner rounder, cutter, and a scorer. Okay I believe that's everything. Let's get started.

First, you will cut your card base at 3" X 8 1/2".
You will need both pieces.

Next score both pieces at 4 1/4".

Then you are going to cut a diagnal by lining up the top of the score line with the bottom left corner of one of your papers.

Your paper should look like this:

Now you will cut the other piece of card stock but cut a diagnal from the top of the score line across to the bottom right side of your paper.

Your paper should look like this:

Once you have your two pieces cut, you will begin putting your card base together. You will need to put some double-sided tape on one of the pieces in the rectangle. Then place the other piece of paper with the rectangle of that piece covering the one with tape.

Your paper should now look like this:
Both flaps should be able to fold towards the center freely without crumpling each other.

Now you will need to get 1 of your pieces of Designer Series Paper and cut at 4" X 2 3/4"  from corner to corner.

Now cut your other piece of Designer Series Paper and cut at 4" X 2 3/4" from corner to corner.

Hint: If you are working with a particular pattern paper that you want to lay a certain way on your card you will need to figure out which side of the criss cross card your paper will sit, otherwise you might cut the diagnal down the wrong way. For example: I wanted my stripes to go vertically but if I wasn't paying attention and cut the other diagnal I would have ended up with horizontal stripes.

Now you are ready to glue the two pieces to the outside of your card base diagnals. These are the sides of the card base that will show when it is closed.

You will want to close the flaps and decide which way you prefer it based on look.

Once you have decided you will put some double-sided tape along the bottom of the rectangle. You will also put tape along the bottom of the flap that will be the top flap.

Hint: I used 1/2" double-sided tape so I folded the tape to make it 1/4" that way the insert will sit down inside of the card base.

Then close your card up.
Hint: I always run my bone folder over the score lines and over taped down parts because it makes the adhesive even more sticky when pressed on.

Your card base should be able to stand alone now. Please place it aside and we will begin making the notecard insert.

You will need to get your 2 pieces of card stock for the notecard insert.

1 piece of card stock (for notecard) cut at 4" X 2 3/4" This should be the background color.

1 piece of card stock (for notecard) cut at 3 3/4" X 2 1/2". This piece is the one you will be stamping on.
Once you have both pieces, you should use your corner rounder and round the top two corners on both pieces of card stock. Then before adhereing the two together you will want to stamp onto the white paper. I would recommend stamp an image that can be written over since this is your notecard. Once you have stamped your image, you can now tape the two pieces together and set aside for a minute.

Next you will get your modern label punch and punch out a piece of matching cardstock as your notecard border. You will then fold it in half. Once you have done that, you can choose to add a decorative bitty button and bitty stamped flower. Then using a glue dot; one on the each side of the inside of the tab, sandwich the notecard with it.

Hint: Make sure you put your notecard into your card before adding the tab because it might not fit properly if you are too close to the edge of your notecard.

Finally, you will use a piece of ribbon to wrap around the card. tie it into a knot and move to either side of the card. Then you can add your message using a dimensional to your ribbon. I chose use the heart from the stamp set, "Simply Said" for my saying. I used my Stampin Write Markers and colored onto my stamp so that I could have several colors in my image and then I  punched it out with my Heart punch. Lastly,  you can embellish your flowers and the center of the itty bitty button with some rhinestones for a little bit of bling. Here are the final cards with inserts so you can clearly see them finished.

I purposely made two so you could see the different looks based on which flap you put on top and where you position your heart greeting.

Well, I had fun making this tutorial for you, and I hope you found it helpful. If you make some criss cross cards, please send me a picture, I would love to add other designs for people to see.
Let your creativity run wild!
